Residential

This home was designed by 5FT Apart for an energetic young family, looking for a vibrant and lively space. To bring that to life, the interiors feature geometric concepts, alongside various textured elements and bold colours.

With a request for Indian origin materials, the space was designed using only locally sourced marbles and wood. For instance, the flooring uses Kota Marble inlays, with the white marble lines running through the floor, serving as a connection between different areas of the ground floor while also adding a contemporary look. These created a subtle demarcation between the living room and the rest of the space by creating an outline. The Jaisalmer yellow marble used for the mezzanine floors added a pop of colour, while the black accents maintained a modern feel.

A study nook on the first floor features a table made from raw wood, which was also incorporated into the ceiling to bring the whole space together. The kitchen and dining areas were merged with a cantilever table built into the countertop. This added an interesting island dining atmosphere. Royal Blue acrylics were used for the cabinets, with mustard yellow dining chairs included as a contrasting element.

The son’s room is a bright and open space showcasing varying shades of blue. The open shelves make the room light and airy, but functional at the same time. A staircase runs up to the attic which houses a play den, with the space below modelled into a study area. One of the challenges faced while designing the house was the limited usable space – although the house was 3 floors, the carpet area was relatively small. This necessitated a smart use of the space with ideas like putting the study desk under the stairs, which helped save plenty of room.

The design of the home had many geometric aspects, with a play on shapes and textures. The custom-made arched doorway in the guest room leads to a walk-in wardrobe. One of the most enjoyable projects in this house was the design of passageways and transitional areas. These areas continued to feature the lined flooring, with the walls of wooden flute panels adding to the striped concept. Every space in this home has unique detailing, making a bright and bold environment exhibiting the client’s energy.
