House with a Splash of Colours

Bengaluru

Residential

This house was for a young couple with kids. At the onset, the ask was for a home that had energy and excitement in each corner, filled with colour.

It was important for the couple to have spaces with their own personality. For instance, the children’s room is designed with pastel and is light and playful. The guest room’s highlighting element is the wardrobe with tropical wallpaper, which is visible from the living room. In general, wallpaper was a tying element through the house. The foyer had a custom-made wallpaper in the foyer, which was then resonated in the powder room.

The house plays with colours and light in various forms. The common areas are darker, bolder, and print heavy. These spaces can be high energy, so bolder colours complement this well. The kitchen and the study are examples of this – using darker tones, yet still creating warm and inviting spaces.

On the other hand, private spaces like bedrooms are for relaxation. So, these use more subtle and neutral tones, like the pastel tones in the children’s bedroom. Similarly, the guest bedroom was sage green with tropical wallpaper, and master bedroom was white and black, with a pop of rust on the bed. These were spaces that embodied calming energy.
